ok, I see all posts above .. and this post/box makes it convenient I guess, more like a real conversation .. all in the same thread.By: danie
When a poster wants to branch off into a new thread (started from the main thread) does he/she send others to look in the main forum? or does it stay the same thread? Life if you want to respond to a particular users post .. ?By: danie
There are two types of forums, generally. Those that have a single conversational flow, and those that have sub-topics/replies that branch off.
I've looked at both. The ones that branch just get too messy. Layer upon layer of replies, and replies to replies. You get 15 replies deep, and then the next message is in response to what was 16 layers above. It's hard to follow.
Logically, if someone has a response to something said above, it should be a response to something related to the topic, since the post above (in theory) should be a part of the conversation.
If someone wants to say something completely off topic, they start a new discussion.
Overall the forum looks less cluttered, and this style has worked very well on a lot of sites, including major venues like MySpace.
